The BakeAway! 2019

The BakeAway

Last year for the first time, we opened our doors and welcomed 12 bakers to New Orleans for a weekend of baking classes, social media workshops, content creating and friendship. The BakeAway was our first attempt at a weekend-long event, and we couldn’t have done it without our amazing vendors and hotel partner! We ate, drank, got our hands dirty and made friends to last a lifetime.

When 2019 rolled around, we knew we had to recreate the magic and plan a second BakeAway, and we knew we wanted to partner with Jack Rose and The Pontchartrain Hotel again and fill The Bakehouse with bakers, bloggers and photographers excited to spend a weekend learning new skills!

We dined at Jack Rose (recently named the nation’s best hotel restaurant by USA Today) on a multi-course menu with chambongs and Mile High Pie, of course. We started our mornings off with rooftop yoga, mimosas and pastries at Hot Tin, enjoying the panoramic views of the city.

When we weren’t being wined and dined at The Pontchartrain, we strapped on our aprons and got busy baking. During our first baking class, we learned how to make Paris-Brest, a French cream-filled pastry dusted with powdered sugar. The next day, we learned to make easy, homemade naan.

And finally, we rounded out the weekend at The Parlor with a natural wine tasting led by Jack Rose Sommelier Alex Minton, recently recognized as one of Wine Enthusiast’s 2019 “40 Under 40.” We even learned to saber bottles of champagne!

All in all, the weekend was one for the books, and we can’t wait to do it again next year! Until then, make sure to follow us @thebakehousenola on Instagram for to-the-minute updates on our class schedule. Cheers!
